Spanish phrase of the week

¿Quedamos?

Shall we meet up?

A2, elementaryYou can manage short, routine exchanges: shopping, directions, your family and your job, and simple messages.

How to use it

Quedar is the everyday verb for arranging to meet someone. ¿Quedamos? on its own is a friendly way to suggest getting together.

Use quedar con for the person you’re meeting: he quedado con Ana. Then a for the time and en for the place: quedamos a las siete en la plaza.

Para says what you’re meeting for: para tomar algo, para comer, para dar un paseo.

Examples

  • ¿Quedamos el sábado para tomar algo?

Shall we meet up on Saturday for a drink?

  • He quedado con mis vecinos a las ocho.

I've arranged to meet my neighbours at eight.

  • ¿Dónde quedamos?

    Where shall we meet?

Good to know

Quedar has other jobs too. Quedarse (with se) means to stay: me quedo en casa. And ¿te queda bien? asks whether something fits or suits you.
